University of Texas - Austin

Self Description

May 2002: "Welcome to The University of Texas at Austin, the largest component of The University of Texas System. UT Austin is a major research University that is home to over 48,000 students, 2,700 faculty, and 17,000 staff members." http://www.utexas.edu/welcome/

Third-Party Descriptions

February 2012: "By agreeing to hear a major case involving race-conscious admissions at the University of Texas, the court thrust affirmative action back into the public and political discourse after years in which it had mostly faded from view. Both supporters and opponents of affirmative action said they saw the announcement — and the change in the court’s makeup since 2003 — as a signal that the court’s five more conservative members might be prepared to do away with racial preferences in higher education."

April 2007: These were just the latest in a series of revelations that have already shown that financial aid directors at three universities — Columbia, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Southern California — held stock in the company, as did an Education Department official who helps oversee student lenders.

Apr 17, 2007 How safe are college campuses?: The shootings at Virginia Tech may challenge a cherished culture of openness.

QUOTE: Already, Virginia Tech, where 32 people were killed Tuesday by a student who then killed himself, is under attack for not locking down campus after the first of two shootings. Apr 16, 2007 Couch Entitlement: Surprise—men do just as much work as women do.

QUOTE: Everyone from economists and sociologists to Oprah knows that women work more than men. Their longer combined hours, at the home and at the office, stop men from taking afternoon naps on the couch and cause fights that end with men spending nights on the couch. And yet according to new study, those longer hours are a myth, because it's just not true that women carry a heavier load.

It put them on a company advisory board, paid at least two as consultants and sold stock in the venture to others, investigators and university officials say.
