Kazaa strikes back at Hollywood, labels

Date: January 27, 2003
Author: John Borland
QUOTE: Sharman Networks, owner of the popular Kazaa file-swapping software, has launched a legal counterstrike against the major record labels and Hollywood studios, asserting that they have “obscenely” abused their copyright powers.

ABSTRACT: Sharman Networks, owner of Kazaa, has been a chief rival of the music and movie industry; although first envisioned to facilitate legal online distribution, it has transformed into an arena where copyrights are frequently ignored. Sharman Networks recently filed a  counter-lawsuit against the entertainment industry, citing antitrust violations. --- Kathleen Hom
