Anti-hacking copyright law to get review
- Date: October 11, 2002
- QUOTE: Federal copyright regulators are opening the door for new exceptions to a controversial copyright law that has landed one publisher in court and a Russian programmer in jail.
- ABSTRACT: The Digital Millennium Copyright Act's anti-circumvention clause, which encourages "'technological measure that effectively controls access to a work,'" is continuously under fire from free speech advocates. Such technology protects products, such as DVDs and Adobe e-books, from being copied or accessed without permission from the copyright owner. Because of the heated debate, the United States Copyright Office is now beseeching the public for suggested copyright exceptions regarding digital media.
