QUOTE: President Bush will ask Congress to relax environmental laws so the timber industry can step up logging across millions of acres of national forest land...

ABSTRACT: President Bush is urging Congress to allow logging across millions of acres of national forest. The plan is designed to thin forest areas in an attempt to curb the damaging wildfires that have been common in the past few months. However, the plan has angered environmentalists who fear that it may "open the door to runaway logging" in currently protected areas.
