The Real Thing

Date: August 20, 2002
Author: Prof. Paul R. Krugman Ph.D.
QUOTE: ...there is an inexorably growing gap between the image and the reality of the Bush administration's policies.

ABSTRACT: As an example of “conservative budget guidance,” a memo from an official at the Department of Veterans Affairs instructed subordinates to "ensure that no marketing activities to enroll new veterans occur within [their] networks." The administration hopes that it can save money by not educating veterans about the aid available to them. Paul Krugman argues that there’s a big difference between the image and the reality of the Bush Administration’s policies.
