Paying Teachers and Students for Good Scores

QUOTE: [The O'Donnell Foundation--Ed.]...paid money bonuses to students, and to their teachers, for AP tests that received high scores.

ABSTRACT: Several Texas schools have implemented an experimental program that pays teachers and students for high scores on AP exams, trying to motivate more students to prepare to take the $72 exams that could lead to college credit. While the initial results increased AP participation and raised scores, some educators criticize the bonuses as bribes that could lower students' desire to learn and are also beyond many schools' budgets.
