You are here: Fairness.com > Internships
We want to provide as much fairness-related information as possible, on as many topics and to as many people as possible -- for free. We can't accomplish such broad goals without our site's users (you!) pitching in. An occasional few hours from a medium-sized group of volunteers will be enough for us to succeed; here's what we need:
- Article 'Scouts'
- Writers
- Message Board Facilitators
- Editors
- Catalogers (Library skills)
- Book Reviewers
Other volunteer possibilities unrelated to our information warehouse:
If you'd like to help in ways not mentioned above, even for just a few hours, there are many possibilities. We'd welcome help from artists, web designers, public relations people,... If you have any interest in assisting us, please let us know your ideas and interests via our Contact Form.
Here are some details about what's involved in these volunteer positions:
Article 'Scouts'
While reading your favorite online newspapers, magazines, and websites, you can quickly and easily recommend fairness-relevant articles, books, videos, and other resources to us. Over time, our goal is to have one group of volunteers (scouts) monitoring The New York Times, another group monitoring The Washington Post, another group US News and World Report, etc. We'll link to those we feel are important, enabling you and other readers to discuss/critique them as well as simply know of them.
Writers
If you have extensive knowledge about situations in which less knowledgeable or less powerful people are taken advantage of, please make that knowledge available to others through our site.
- Professional Writers: Even though we aren't a paying market for your work, do consider contributing pieces on topics that are personally meaningful to you.
- Non-professionals: You don't have to be a professional writer to make a valuable contribution to our community.
Whatever you contribute, long or short, will be more information than we had before, and it can serve as a foundation for others' work. Please see our Writers Guidelines for a general overview of what we think will be helpful and appropriate for our site.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In general, if you want to make money from a particular piece of writing, don't post it here. We intend to make articles and essays contributed to the site available indefinitely, and this availability will significantly hinder your ability to sell that article or essay elsewhere. If you need to sell what you write commercially but are inexperienced doing so, avoid being taken advantage of by reading about the writing business (e.g. here are a few suggested Commercial Resources for Writers.
There are three ways writers can contribute to this project:
- If you have just a few tidbits of information to share, the simplest way is to post your comments to one of our Message Boards.
- If you have an essay or article that you've written and which you know you own all publication rights to, email your contribution to submissions@fairness.com. Let us know a possible title for the article and describe your expertise and background on the subject you're writing about. Please include a few URLs giving information about you or links to other things you've written.
- If you have an idea for an article but aren't sure what to cover, or how to structure the writing, use the same submissions@fairness.com address as above; we'll reply as soon as possible with suggestions about format, approach, length, etc.
Editors
Members of our community will be contributing a wide variety of essays and helpful write-ups to our site. If you have editing background and skills, basic copyediting assistance (spelling, grammar, basic comprehensibility checking) every so often would be of tremendous help. Please let us know of your possible interest via our Contact Form.
Message Board Facilitators
Facilitators will regularly visit the Fairness.com Message Boards to help answer users' questions. This will become a critical need as our site becomes known and the number of postings increase. Please let us know of your possible interest via our Contact Form.
Article Catalogers (Librarians)
Are you an intellectually-oriented person who appreciates well-organized collections of references and resources? If so, we need your help categorizing the Articles (and eventually books, website, and other resources our Article 'Scouts' find (see above) according to our site's Knowledge Schema. Library cataloging experience is a plus but not required. Please let us know of your possible interest via our Contact Form.
Teachers
Education is what Fairness.com is all about; we're anxious to support the efforts of anyone teaching values and skills related to fairness. Elementary school, high school, university, corporate, adult education... every level and audience is of interest to us! Teachers who can provide us with references to existing materials, or who might be interesting in developing new materials to offer through Fairness.com, should definitely get in touch via our Contact Form.
